The School Band and Photos and Performance The
school's 'Swing Band', which is led by Mr Coulson on guitar,
rehearses twice a week and over the school year builds up a repertoire
of around a dozen well known songs. There are almost 30 children in the Swing
Band and they perform in front of the school and at concerts attended
by friends and family and in June 2006 they 'hit the big time' when they were invited to perform at the 2006 Cheshire Show - see the photo gallery of their performance by clicking here.
In December 2005 they performed a medley of their 'hits' and a special Christmas selection at the end of term fair. To capture the children's enthusiasm the band plays some recent material (last year this included the Robbie Williams song 'Angels') and a selection of golden oldies, which they soon discover are just as cool to play as 'stuff' in the charts. The songs learned so far and which were performed in assembly and at the Christmas Fair are: Spanish Eyes, Woodchoppers' Ball (rock and roll), the theme from the Pink Panther and a Christmas Medley of Sleigh Bells, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Jingle Bells, Winter Wonderland, Christmas Bells and of course Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. The band is reformed every September as the Year 6 pupils leave and its performances demonstrate the wealth of musical talent at Lower Park School. Please wait for the photos to appear - it could take up to 20 seconds. Click 'Lower Park Times' or News in the top left hand menu to return to the latest new.
