Dear Parents,
World Book day yesterday (and today in Key Stage 1!!) saw some lovely literacy work going on in school. Yesterday, the whole day was given over to literacy and work revolving around books. I am sure you will have seen the book theatre models during parents'night. They added a real dimension to the myths and stories the children have been working on this week.
Of course, today has been very exciting for the kings and queens, princes and princesses of Key Stage 1, dressing up and acting out our favourite stories from the past. All the children took it in turns to walk along our catwalk in the hall to some regal music. It was a super, colourful event that the children (and staff) thoroughly enjoyed.
Thank you mums and dads for help dressing the children appropriately for the occasion.
Tickets are selling well for our quiz night next Friday 9th March at 7.30pm and are available from the school office (£5.50 per adult - to include Ploughman's supper).
Our quiz nights are great fun and very popular.
Come and pit your wits against the best in this adult only quiz night - you may win a super prize too.
Thank you for your attendance at parents'evenings this week. It was encouraging to hear so much positive dialogue taking place.
It can only enhance the children's progress and development. Thank you for your support.
School Council Request
to Parents |
At this week's meeting the Council wished to discuss the dangers of children riding scooters around the playground first thing on a morning and they considered that it can be a hazard in a busy playground.
School Council meeting is continued at the top of the next column...

School Council meeting continued...
They have asked me to request that, whilst not wishing to stop children enjoying that ride to school, they ask your help in ensuring that children do not ride scooters in the busy playground. It was such a super and mature discussion, I would endorse their thinking and ask you to support them with their request.

- Our School Council met on Monday and discussed the issues of travelling to school. Their views are being sought to inform our School Travel Plan presently being drawn up. The scooter issue was discussed and they decided to order just one school flag - because of cost.
- On Monday, the hall was transformed into a science laboratory for the day and our visiting scientist from 'Set Point' really stimulated the children from years 2 & 3 with a range of activities including electrical circuit building, classifying animals, properties of materials etc.
- During parents'evenings, it was good to speak to so many parents about how well the children are doing - we are aware that a 10 minute appointment is sometimes not long enough - but we do our best and supplement the discussion by giving you written reports with grades and targets. The feedback about the new effort grades was quite positive too. Thank you for taking the time to look at the books and work in the classrooms and corridors.
- Of course, World Book Day is always enjoyable and no less so this year.
