Dear Parents,
Despite all that the weather could throw at us last weekend, I am absolutely delighted to inform you that the fair was a tremendous success. Apart from the gymnastics, bouncy castle and world record attempt, everything else went ahead indoors and the atmosphere was wonderful.
It was a credit to the members of PTA and its management team led by Lesley Noone. This has been as successful as any previous event and the reward is that a staggering £2750 was raised.
I must thank parents and friends who came along, despite the weather and for your donations beforehand. Most of all, I must thank those who helped – parents, staff, children and friends - who willingly gave their time.
As promised, 50% of the profit will be spent on refurbishing the school library – terrific news!
As you may be aware, Mrs Ripper, the Assistant Headteacher, is taking a period of maternity leave from the end of this term. She is expecting her third child – Matthew and Joseph are very excited too. Mrs Ripper will be returning to school in 2008. I know you will join me in sending them our very best wishes.
I would like to keep you informed about Mrs Beckett’s replacement as deputy headteacher.
As both the deputy head and assistant headteacher will not be here in September, it was decided to form a leadership and management team for the academic year 2007 – 2008 that will comprise of Headteacher, plus three Assistant Headteachers. To this end, Miss Lindley, Mrs Gallagher and Mr Parry have been appointed to this role. Each one will take one of the terms to be in charge if I am not in school. Mr Parry will do this in the autumn term, Miss Lindley in the spring term and Mrs Gallagher in the summer term.
Mrs Gallagher will lead Upper Key Stage 2, Mr Parry will lead Lower Key Stage 2 and Miss Lindley will lead Key Stage 1 and the Foundation Stage. They all have additional aspects of the New Primary Strategy to implement during the year.
As always, we appreciate your support and we are looking forward to another successful year at Lower Park.
Those who watched the children sing and play music on Wednesday, will remember this evening for a long time – and so will the children. It was simply one of the best school concerts we have had here.
Well done to the boys and girls and Mrs Mellor. Thank you to Mrs Pears Mrs Green, the staff, the kitchen staff and, of course, Mr Banks for working tirelessly behind the scenes.
Design Technology / Healthy School Challenge Week – Next Week! |
On Monday we begin this exciting challenge (top secret until the challenge is given to the Year 6 children). However, the list of events is fantastic. Captain Cholesterol will entertain the children on Monday.
On Wednesday there will be a Phys Kids assembly.
On Thursday, the teachers will play the children in a rounders tournament.
On Friday there will be a dance session for all classes.
Next Monday (16th), the Year 6 children will prepare a video and there will be more dance workshops. On the following Tuesday (17th), our Sports Day will bring the challenge week to an end with a special presentation and, we hope, a new award for the school. This will take place at 2.50pm (approx).
Work produced in D&T week will be displayed in the hall on Open Evening for parents to view. Wow! What a busy time ahead!
Our school discos take place next Friday.
The KS1 disco takes place from 6.00 – 7.00pm. Our new intake children will be coming along and there is a children’s entertainer.
The Key Stage 2 disco is from 7.15 – 8.30pm.

What a Thursday afternoon! In one room a visiting vet was explaining to the children how and why he treats sick animals – and brought along a horse’s skull to show them. At the same time, The Bugman brought in his giant snails, scorpions and spiders. As you can imagine, the children were absolutely enthralled – wonderful!
In September, the price of a school meal will rise by 5p to £1.80.
Despite the weather (again) the staff, children and parents rose to the challenge of otter and fox searching at the Chestnut Centre. A great time was had by all, as they say – and the weather did not dampen the curiosity of the children. Thank you to the staff, to Mrs Ripper for organising the trip and to the parents for coming along – we cannot go without you!
