Dear Parents,

Last Beacon of the Term
Due to the visit of the Year 5 children to Ilam, which I will be accompanying, this will be the last Beacon of the term.
There are, however, several additional letters that will be sent home with this edition.
Look out for a magazine called, 'Primary Times' that will be sent home on Monday too. With today's Beacon there should be a letter about Parents' meetings to find out more about English and Maths teaching and a letter from Mr Parry about a change to playtime snacks. Parents of children going to Ilam will also receive a 'Final Information' letter.

Curriculum Days for Parents
I have been asked by some parents in our survey last term, if there could be more information evenings. The Poynton cluster of schools (PDA) has arranged two such meetings for parents that will be held in the daytime. Please read the accompanying letter that invites parents from all the local primary schools to the Deanwater Hotel on two separate days to get to know more about the teaching and learning of English and Maths.
The sessions will be run by Cheshire's advisers and they will provide an excellent means to familiarise with today's methods. I must emphasise that returns must be made by 28th March.

School Bank
We now have one parent willing to run our school bank (much appreciated) but this will be on Friday mornings at 9.00am instead of Tuesdays after Easter. We do, however, need a second helper. Could you help? - Please let me know.

Morning Break Snacks - a Change
We are asking parents to help our drive to encourage our children to have healthier life styles. We have had a concern for some time about what the children bring to school for their morning break. This concern was shared by parents in our survey last term. From the beginning of next term we are asking you to change what you give to the children so that, for example, crisps and chocolate bars would not be sent into school. Whilst we will be talking to the children about the change, we thought it would help you support your child when discussing the new snacks. To this end, I have asked Mr Parry to explain more about the reasons, in the letter that will be sent home with the Beacon today.
Whilst it may not be the most popular decision with the children, we as adults know the long term benefits for the children. Thank you for your support.

Easter Story Exhibition
The highlight of this week must surely be the visits to St George's Church. All classes made the visit and we were all amazed at the transformation inside the church.

Peter Frazer invited the children into the Last Supper room where we joined the 'disciples' before moving on to the simulated Garden of Gethsemane. From there we moved to the site of the crucifixion and the tomb before returning to the Last Supper room for refreshments.

It was an excellent experience for the children and a superb way of getting to know the Easter Story 'at first hand.' Its success was due, in no short measure, to the skills of Peter Frazer in 'illustrating' the events of the story so well and there has been a great deal of follow up work at school.

Thank you to the parents who helped by escorting the children to and from the church - many have said they enjoyed it too.

This Week at Lower
Park
  • On Tuesday and Wednesday, all the classes visited St George's Church to see the Easter Story Exhibition.
  • On Tuesday, our governors met for our termly, informal meeting. We discussed our drive to become a recognised 'Inclusive' school, we had an update about being a 'Healthy' school and we decided which governors would become more involved with aspects of the curriculum.
  • Today, all the children enjoyed a production of 'Bully's Paradise.'
Eggs and Flowers Service
At 10.00am on Tuesday 27th March (sorry about a previous wrong date), the children from Key Stage 1 will be performing a special assembly for parents that illustrates the Easter Story.

No tickets are required but it will be a bit of a squeeze, so bear with us. If you could arrange child care, that too would be appreciated so the children can be heard.

Eggs and Flowers service is continued at the top of the next column.
We have asked you for donations of chocolate eggs - that will be donated to children in sad circumstances in Manchester and for flowers that will be taken to old people's homes in Poynton. Please send them into school from Monday - thank you kindly for the donations.
