Dear Parents,

The Trim Trail Has Arrived!
The big event of the week is the arrival of our Trim Trail. It has been very exciting for everyone to see it emerge at the end of the netball court during the course of the week. We have been rewarded for the wait. It is an excellent addition to our playground. The children have told us that it is ‘cool!’ They are very pleased with it. We will have an official opening at the summer fair tomorrow, at 11.10am when Chris Myers, the chair of the PTA, will cut the ribbon. The PTA gave the school £3000.00 towards the Trim Trail. We will, however, cordon it off during the fair (supervising it would have been a problem!) but please take a look tomorrow.

The next phase, Phase 3 is the arrival of the Tyre Park which will be located between the Trim Trail and the path. We need just over £5000.00 – and with your help, we will raise it – at events like tomorrow’s fair.

An Opportunity with the Macclesfield Express

As you may know, Mrs Gallagher entered the school into a competition with the Macclesfield Express for a ‘playground makeover.’ We have learned that we are one of the three finalists to receive free materials & labour from the ROK Building Company. This would provide us with another aspect of our playground project being done – free of charge. Details will be sent home on Wednesday to explain how you can vote and help us win.
Cabaret Evening – 2nd July
Tickets for the Cabaret evening are now sold out. If you have a ticket but find you cannot come after all, please return it school. Thank you.

Summer Fair Preparations
Preparations for tomorrow’s Summer Fair are well advanced. We are going to have a wonderful fair and raise money for our Tyre Park! Please do come along to the fair and help us if you can spare an hour to man a stall or help us clear up at the end. The time slots that we need help to fill are: 11am till 12.10, 12.10 till 1.20 and 1.20 till 2.30. Please ring our organiser, Michelle Massey on 01625 876644 to let her know.

The main wish is that you come along on the day and enjoy the fair, between 11.00am and 2.30pm. Don’t forget, our Choir will be performing at 11.15am and the School Swing Band at 12.00 outside Mrs Gallagher’s classroom facing the field.
New Date For Dinner Dance
The dinner dance in aid of the Rett Syndrome Association will now take place on Saturday 13th December at Marple Golf Club. Tickets and information can be sought from Dr Leather on 872488 or by email on Carolynleather@doctors.org.uk

Library Books
All library books should be returned to the school library before the end of term. They can be returned at any time and placed in the collection box in the library. Mrs Russell, our librarian is usually in the library between 1.00 and 3.00pm on Wednesdays, should you wish to query the books on loan. It is also interesting to know that the books obtained from our book fair sales have started arriving and are filling up our shelves and making a difference. Thank you!

Midday Assistant Needed
We have a vacancy for another midday assistant at Lower Park. Number of hours can be negotiated – see Mrs Green in the school office. Please bring these items for recycling to school. Thank you!
School Bank
We have had a favourable response for a new school bank helper. Mrs Asquith will take over from Mrs Hanson at the end of this term. Thank you, again, to Mrs Hanson for her work with the bank and to Mrs Asquith for taking it on.
This Week at Lower Park
  • What a fantastic Seaside Day took place at the end of last week! To see the children enjoy the day so much was so pleasing – laying their towels out on the grass, playing in the sand and enjoying traditional beach games. Click here to see the photo gallery. There is an extensive ‘beach’ in Mrs Carding/Marshall’s class where the beach goes on. To see photos click here.
  • Several issues were discussed by the Pupil Forum on Monday, including the cinema in Poynton, school uniform and transition. It was great to see two former Lower Park children representing Poynton High School.
  • It has been an exciting time for KS1 lately. The trip to Tatton Park turned out to be one of the best trips we have had. There was such variety and the children learned so much. Thanks to all the parent helpers and to the teachers and staff who made it so rewarding.
  • The rounders tournament was enjoyed by the boys and girls who went to Poynton High on Wednesday. We narrowly missed winning the competition.
  • Many of our midday assistants were involved with training about SEAL on Wednesday. This was to enable our ladies to extend the interactive work that takes place in SEAL lessons.
  • The School Council met on Wednesday to evaluate the Trim Trail and to hear about the work of the Poynton Pupil Forum. Our Council members have some work to do researching how all pupils feel about the uniform, the cinema in Poynton etc.
  • Thank you for the very many cakes and chocolate sent in today and for the huge amount of bottles and sweet jars sent in for the fair.
Next Week at Lower Park
  • Our summer fair takes place tomorrow from 10.30 to 3.00pm Please come along.
  • The school begins Design and Technology Challenge Week on Monday. This is one of the children’s favourite events of the year. All shall be revealed on Monday but please be ready to send in lots of reusable items.
A sketch of a meeting
  • The Pupils’ Committee of governors meets on Monday at 2.30pm.
  • The school choir and swing band are having their concert on Wednesday at 7.15pm – see above.
  • As part of our transition programme, our Year 6 children are going to Poynton High School for the day on Thursday.
  • There is a meeting for parents of Year 6 children on Thursday at 7.30pm at Poynton High School.

  • The children’s discos take place next Friday evening. Key Stage 1 at 6.00pm and Key Stage 2 at 7.15pm Our new intake children will join us for the 6.00 disco (there will be a children’s entertainer).
