Dear Parents,
Tonight - Quiz Night - Tonight |
Our Quiz takes place this evening. There is a trophy (to keep) for the winning team so the quiz will have a competitive edge as well as being fun.
If you have not got tickets and you would like to come along, just arrive at 7.45pm and buy your ticket then. They cost £5.50 which includes a ploughman’s supper. There is also a bar and the quiz questions begin at 8.00pm. Good luck?
Could this be a quiz question? In which year, within in the last decade, did the Tesco Vouchers for Schools scheme begin?
World Book Week has really been different this year. On Monday, we had children’s author, Nic Perring taking workshops with the children. His book, ‘The Sheep Who Wouldn’t Eat Grass’ really did promote some wonderful ideas. Yesterday saw the arrival of World Book Week Teddy Bears. There is such a variety of bears – one for each class (kindly paid for by the PTA) all of whom have their own distinct class message. In turn, they will be arriving home and the objective is to promote the genre of diary writing.
I have to say how brilliant everyone dressed as their favourite book character. The children were magnificent with such imagination – thank you for helping them. The staff, on the other hand, I have never seen looking better!! I have to say a special well done to them for entering into the spirit of the fun for the children.
You can see photographs of children dressed in some of their favourite book characters here.
The 'books' that the children have written this week are magnificent. They have written imaginatively and illustrated them beautifully.
Every year we remember the Easter Story in a wonderful way. We call it our Eggs and Flowers Service. The children from Key Stage 1 and Foundation, retell the story of Jesus being crucified and it is told through a variety of dance, drama and music. It is a very ‘moving’ service.
It is also an opportunity for us all to enter the spirit of Easter by giving gifts to those who would really benefit. We ask you to donate Chocolate Easter Eggs and Fresh Flowers which, after they have been used for the background display in the hall, will be donated to local care homes and the chocolate eggs to children who are going through a hard time in their lives.
Parents are invited to the service which begins at 10.00am on Monday 10th March in the school hall. You do not need a ticket but the hall is usually very full.
We ask you to donate Easter Eggs at any time from now until the service begins and fresh flowers on the morning of the service. Thank you!
Gymnastic Champion of the Future! |
Congratulations to Sophie in Year 4 who went to her Grade 4 Gymnastics and finished 4th overall in the North West Regional finals last weekend. She will now represent the North West in the National Finals in Birmingham in May.
This is an outstanding achievement and a just reward for the hours of training she has committed to. Well done Sophie!

New This Week – Brass Tuition |
I am delighted to tell you that Mr Graeme Longson began to teach children how to play the cornet this week. We have eagerly awaited his start after hearing him demonstrate his playing in assembly. He is an excellent brass teacher and we are hoping that more children will join those having lessons, with the ultimate aim of having a school brass band.
If your child is interested, please let us know at the office.
Tesco Vouchers / Sainsbury Vouchers |
They’re back!! Tesco vouchers are now available when you do your shopping. The scheme runs from 3rd March to 11th May this year. We are collecting them again (and Sainsbury Vouchers) as they do bring us a great deal of computer software and hardware. In the past we have managed to receive computers, video cameras, printers, digital cameras and a range of software. Please let everyone you know who does their shopping at Tesco to obtain the vouchers and pop them in our collecting box outside my door. They are very much appreciated.
Football ‘A’ team won 2-0 and ‘B’ team lost 0-1 against Nevill Road. The Netball team finished 3rd in the High 5 competition. Well done to everyone who took part.
Year 6 Parents’ Meeting – SATs |
Just a reminder that all Year 6 parents are asked to attend a meeting on Thursday 13th March at 7.00pm. We will provide information about the forthcoming Year 6 statutory tests and how best to prepare your child in our revision programme. We can also answer questions that you might have. To that end, it is very important that Year 6 parents attend.
Our policy for administering medicines does allow us to give children some medicines – but they are limited and I would like to inform parents that we can not administer Nurofen. Parents are asked to fill in details about any proposed taking of medicine. If in doubt call the office for advice.
- This week has been all about World Book week, as described earlier.

- Brass tuition began on Thursday (it will happen on Wednesdays in future).
- World Book Day was yesterday and the children looked magnificent dressed as their favourite book characters. Thank you for your help there too. Please have a look at the super photographs on the school website.
- Some School Council members met with some visitors yesterday to gather their opinions about our playground development ideas.

- On Monday evening, the staff are involved with the second training session on Child Protection.
