11+11=22=? Puzzled?
The answer = 1 silver and 3 bronze and here's why: For the very first time, pupils from Lower Park took part in the UK Junior Mathematical Challenge 2003. This is a national competition aimed at those children who enjoy trying a higher level of maths. Although aimed at years 7, 8 and 9, pupils from Mrs Gallagher's maths set were invited to have a go and twenty-two of them decided to put their maths skills to the test.

We were delighted to receive these results: Silver certificate - James (Yr 6) Bronze certificates - Katie (Yr 6), Daniel (Yr 5) and Rachel (Yr 5) Congratulations on this tremendous achievement!!

Jordan (Year 2) and Richard (Year 6) are the most recent recipients of the Lower Park School Trophies. Both boys received their awards at a special assembly in which they were described as 'model pupils'.

The trophies, in memory of Chris Hammond and Caroline Corlett, are awarded on a termly basis to pupils who demonstrate an outstanding attitude and contribution to school life.

Excellent New Facilities
A home economics area, a quality teaching and resource area, improved security, toilets and cloakroom areas and playtime will never be the same! These and more are all 'built in' to the exciting Lower Park Building Development Programme. Click here for much more information.

World Book Day
Going to school provided something of a challenge for pupils at Lower Park after their teachers invited them to write a book in a day.
World Book Day Photo
As part of the celebrations for World Book Day, the entire staff and children arrived at school dressed as a character from a book. The pupils spent the day planning, writing, redrafting and editing their own work to produce a book for others to read. The event was both enjoyable and highly successful, with nearly 300 children producing top quality literature.

Blue Peter Boost
The pupils of Lower Park School have been digging deep in their pockets to raise money for charity.

A group of year 5 boys spent weeks organising a giant Bring and Buy sale in order to boost the funds of the latest Blue Peter appeal. Their hard work helped raise £71, which will help towards providing cleaner water in a group of African villages.

2 Triple Bills-both a great success!
On Tuesday 15th July there was a chance to see children's work, musical talent and the Head speak! The School's Open Evening, Mr Coulson's 'State Of The Nation' Address and a Musical Evening all turned out to be a success. (We'll be testing you on what the Head said later!)

The following night was a real treat. A Cabaret Evening when the Choir performed, the School Swing Band presented their repertoire and to top that the fantastic George Galway's Swing Band. More details of the event appeared in this school newsletter.
