"Oliver, Oliver, Oliver - never before has a boy asked for more"!
From
Mr Bumble and orphan Oliver to Fagin, the Artful Dodger, Nancy and Bill
Sikes the Juniors 2005 Christmas Show had them all.
We've 'picked'
a 'pocketful' of photos from the show which you can see by clicking
on the picture above.

Christmas Awards 2005. During
the end of term assembly, pupils were surprised as two very special children were
presented with trophies in front of their proud parents. Laura from Year 6 received
the Chris Hammond trophy and the Caroline Corlett trophy was awarded to Daniel
from Year 2. Both
were nominated by teachers for outstanding attitude to school life, represented
by their kindness and consideration for other pupils, and their determination
and motivation in class.

Back to Egyptian times. No
you're not looking at 2 newly discovered pharaohs - it's 2 'explorers' trying
to discover more about Egypt's history - with a couple of masked friends in the
background! Click the photo to discover more about the school's
Egyptian days.

Hip, hip hooray! A
school club with something to...well...cheer at. Click here

Jingle Bells, jingle bells ... The Christmas Fair jingled all the way.
It
all took place on Saturday 3rd December... ...and apart from being a
great occasion, we also managed to raise over £2000. Well done everyone. |

Wedding of the Year No
not Charles and Camilla! Lower Park pupils Kate and Dougie tied the knot recently
in a ceremony as part of Lower Park's Community Hour For those
of you who didn't get an invitation take an exclusive look
at the wedding album. Find
out what the event was all about in this newsletter.

Did you ... remember,
remember the 5th of November... ...
and make money for the school at the same time. Every year the Poynton Round Table
organise a big bonfire night complete with torchlight procession and a junior
and main (louder bangs) firework display. This
year was no exception and the 400th anniversary of the attempt to blow up the
Houses of Parliament really did go off with a bang. And if you bought tickets
from the office, the school will receive commission.

School Places for 2006 If you
are keen to get a reception place for your child in 2006, or know someone who
does, then because of the way the admissions are now handled, requests for places
need to be made by 15th Nov. 2005. Find out how to do this in the Sept 9th edition
of the Lower Park Beacon.
Chair
of Governors leaves.
Letitia
Waller has now stood down from the Governing Body of Lower Park.
We
thank Letitia for all her invaluable work and dedication to the school and wish
her all the very best in the future. read Letitia's letter in full here
and read a longer feature here.

Get on yer bike
- 2005! Lower
Park children have been given the opportunity to take part in a 'Let's Bike' cycling
course in a bid to raise their safety awareness on the roads. Click on

Bags of Stories to Tell! Once
again the annual DT week proved to be a great success. At the end of the week
the entire school helped to make six 'story sacks' - a large bag based on a story,
stuffed full of resources to bring the story to life in the classroom. Now
that sounds like 'tales from the unexpected'! No doubt the story sacks will be
used for years to come.

Talent Show 2005
No
not another X-Factor! The last Tuesday of term was a time for celebration for
the entire school. The Infants enjoyed parties, whilst the Juniors entertained
themselves and the staff by staging a talent show. The performances included singing,
playing instruments, telling jokes, dancing and drama.
Congratulations
go to Dan from Year 5 who played a jaw dropping drum solo and walked away with
a brand new trophy (and a box of chocolate goodies) presented by Mr Coulson.

Major royal accolade for Lower Park
Lower
Park School has been placed on the national list of 'Particularly
Successful Schools'. Following a superb OFSTED inspection
this year, the local primary school has been singled out by Her Majesty's Chief
Inspector of Schools, David Bell. In a letter of congratulation,
he explained that schools placed on the list were found to be extremely effective
in providing high quality education and ensuring that their pupils achieve well.
Head teacher, Ian Coulson said, "I am delighted that Lower Park has
been included in this year's list. We were all so very pleased with the OFSTED
report and this latest achievement reflects the continued hard work, team spirit
and commitment of everyone associated with the school."

Yamaha and Classic
FM No
not a 250cc motorbike which plays classical music! This was great interactive
live music in school. Pupils were recently treated to a stunning
performance by 'Vision', a band closely associated with Classic FM. The 5-piece
group introduced the children to foot tapping music, ranging from classical to
rock, through a variety of instruments and invited them to clap, play, dance and
sing-a-long. As a final bonus the group offered to provide a number of free drum
lessons at school. You can find out more about 'Vision' at the Yamaha
Music website.
Pictured above are Clare from Vision and Year 6 pupils Chloe
and Abbie.
Ein, due, trois... Non,
the LP Times editor has not gone mad he's just been learning about what some of
the children and teachers did for World Languages Day. Find out
more by clicking on the photo below.

Sports Round-Up To
inspire children who enjoy any kind of sport the LP Times presents a look back
at the school's achievements and success stories over the last academic year.
Can we do better in 2005/2006? Find out more here.

The Prom! Boys
with ties and bow ties, girls in posh frocks. Some arrived in a stretch limo and
others in 'smart' cars. The final big event for the Year 6 leavers was a great
success and will be a night to remember as the children move on to another school.

Beat It!
The whole school was
recently entertained in assembly by a visiting drumming group. Year
4 pupils in Miss Meredith's class were particularly lucky as they took part in
a workshop and learned how to play a 'Samba' rhythm.

First Aid Training All
children from the Juniors have taken part in a First Aid workshop, where they
were given fantastic tuition by St John’s Ambulance staff.
They
were taught how to perform CPR and given basic training in how to cope with medical
emergencies.
