'Welly Wednesday'

Red, blue, green, pink, some with spots and at least one pair with Thomas the Tank Engine on the side. Yes they're wellies and there's a lot in reception - at least every Wednesday. Each week the Reception children put on their boots and head outdoors.
WHY?
Well, the children are being taught and encouraged to explore the environment through a wide range of activities. So far they have been looking at shapes created in mud (just as well they've got wellies on then), the shapes of leaves and trees and trying to understand why leaves stick to wellies! Do you know the answer?

Welly walk
First they looked at the different types, colours and shapes of leaves in the field next to school.
Welly walk
They tried to think of reasons why the leaves stuck to their wellies after walking through the damp grass.
Welly walk
The class had lots of help to search for and identify different leaves that had fallen from the nearby trees.

Welly walk
The children enjoyed watching their feet sinking into the soft mud as they walked.

Welly walk
Looking at how many varieties of prints they could make with their wellies proved interesting.

Welly walk
Splashing through puddles would still be appealing to all ages of children (and adults), not just our four and five year olds.
