Race Night - Back by Popular Demand - Update
A huge thank you to all Parents who have ‘bought’ and named their horses for the forthcoming PTA Race Night to be held on March 20th. An unbelievable response and some imaginative horse and jockey names have been received!
Phase 1: Buying and naming a Horse and Jockey for £2.50.
The first priority for us was to sell all the horses for the 8 Races and I’m delighted to say that this has virtually been completed in record time. There are only one or two horses to be named, so if you would like the chance of winning a fabulous prize, please check remaining availability at the Office.
Phase 2: Ticket sales.
This event has certainly provoked an exceptional response following the success of last years Race Night. I have had many conversations with parents who are already planning who will be on their table for the night! I have also been asked if friends not connected to the School can attend – yes of course, everybody is welcome, the more the merrier.
Briefly, the way it works is quite simple - 8 races with 8 horses in each race - all shown on the big screen. Bets on the night are ‘Win only’ and are priced at 50p per bet, multiple bets can be placed if desired. The winning horse ‘owner’ of each race will win the prize donated by one of our sponsors, value around £25.
Initial ticket sales have been extremely encouraging. We have a maximum capacity of 100 for the night, so unfortunately we are allocating tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. I would therefore suggest all parents who are interested in attending to please purchase your tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. This will also help us to organise the Catering and Bar requirements for the night.
Tickets are available from the school Office, priced at a recession busting £5.00 per person, and include a hearty Ploughman’s Supper AND your first drink from the licensed bar.
I can assure you that this event is FULL of excitement and has an electric atmosphere from the very first race.
Hope to see you there and thank you for your continued support of the PTA. Chris Myers.
In Brief:
The first events of this academic year included a Bag2School collection on Monday 12th October and a fabulous family Ceilidh Night on Saturday 17th October. On Saturday 28th November the annual Christmas Fair was an outstanding success with a large number of children, parents, relatives and friends attending. We'll be able to announce how much was raised soon.
Christmas Fair - Outstanding Record Breaking Success
A great many people came along, the children provided the entertainment – and the cream on top is that the fair raised over £3,200.00 – a record for a Christmas Fair at Lower Park.
Thank you for supporting the fair by coming along, donating presents or helping on the day.
A special thank you to the PTA and to Michelle Massey who has once again coordinated a magnificent school event. Thank you!
2. Bag2School
We're delighted to tell you that the recent Bags 2 School appeal resulted in a collection of 540 bags and therefore it raised £216.

1 - Summer Fair- Sat 27th June.
The Summer Fair Competition this year followed the theme of 'Growth' which the children have been working on this term including drawings, sculptures, models and poems.
As usual there was a wide selection of stalls ranging from face and nail painting, tombola, bran tub and hook-a-bag to coconut shy, penalty shoot-out and welly wanging.
There's a selection of photos on our Summer Fair 2009 page. There'll be more coming soon.
2 - Plant Sale
We would like to thank you all for your tremendous support for the annual Plant Sale, which generated approximately £2000 – amazingly a year on year increase!
Thanks again for all those parents and teachers that helped picking and delivering orders all over Poynton. Please pass on our thanks to friends and neighbours that have supported the Plant Sale this year.
All proceeds will go towards the ongoing Playground re-furbishment, specifically the Tyre Park that will complement the Trim Trail, that the children have now been enjoying over the past 10 months.
3 - ' Pick your own' fundraising PTA event.
Another big thanks to all parents that responded to the PTA Social Event Survey over the past couple of weeks. We had a great response and having reviewed the responses, we are pleased to announce that we will be holding a Family Barn Dance on the 17th October from 6pm – 9pm. Please put the date in your diaries! If you haven't got a copy you can download a the survey form here.
4 - Help?
Finally, are there any accountants out there that would be able to volunteer to audit the PTA accounts? Our Treasurer assures us that it’s a simple, but necessary job. If you could help us out, please contact Clare Stacey on (01625) 875463.
Once again, the PTA would like to thank you for all the help and support you provide throughout the year to support our School!
5 - Race Night - 25th April
We would like to thank all parents who were able to support our first Race Night. Not only to those that joined us on the night, but also to those parents who were’t able to attend, yet bought horses prior to the evening. From start to finish the evening had a fantastic atmosphere with everyone shouting and cheering for their chosen horse. Hopefully by now all the winning Owners have received their prizes. Special thanks also to all our race sponsors, who donated the excellent prizes. Lots of fun was had by all and we were able to raise a fantastic £720 profit overall.
The aims of the Association are:
1. To provide or assist in providing the facilities for education not normally provided by the local Education Authority in order to promote and support the educational, cultural, social and physical amenities available to pupils, subject to the approval of the Headteacher.
2.
To encourage interest in the fulfillment of the educational requirements contained in the Education Acts since 1944.
3. To encourage co-operation between the staff of the school, the parents and all others associated with the School.
Regular events are organised and include fairs, dances and educational evenings. Although there is a P.T.A. Committee, it must be understood by all parents that they will be given all sorts of opportunities to be involved in the many activities which are arranged.
