Football

On Tuesday 28/11/06 our A & B teams played football against Pownall Green. The A Team won 4-0 and the B team drew 1-1. Well done to both teams.
Football
On Tuesday (20/11/06), in not very pleasant weather, our football teams played against Norbury Hall. Both teams deserve praise for playing in such a good spirit. Our A team lost 2-0 and our B team won 6-0.
Our children were on the winning side yesterday when competing at the high school in the Poynton Schools' indoor competition. They returned to school with the winners trophy.
Well done to all members of the team.
Netball
Our netball team played against Bolshaw School in mid November. It was played with great enthusiasm but unfortunately Lower Park lost 6 -1.
Football
Our football team also played in the same week against Nevill Road. The A team drew 1-1 and the B Team won 8-0. In a friendly against Moss Hey, the A Team won 6-0 and the Girls team won 2-0. Well done to all the girls and boys representing our school in football, you have brought credit to the school in the way you have played.
Also in a cup match at Norbury Hall, in early November, the football team won 4-1. Thomas H – man of the match. Well done to the team!!
Game of Two Halves
On Thursday 29th June our soccer team played against 'top of the table' Moorfield and lost 5 goals to 2. The scoreline doesn't reflect the fact that in the first half Moorfield got 2 quick goals and led by 4 -0 at half time and in the second half LP came back strong and scored 2 goals. It was a tough game against very good opposition so the team should be congratulated.

Athletics
There was a super photograph in the Macclesfield Express of our Athletics team this week. The final yesterday (30/11/06) was a great experience for our children who, although they did not win, they will receive medals. Well done!
Badminton
We are very proud that Matthew R. represented the school at the recent Cheshire Badminton Competition in Chester and won the U11 competition. He also was runner up with his partner in the U13s Doubles Competition. He has donated his trophies to the school’s display cabinet. This is a fantastic achievement Matthew- very well done! Matthew’s photograph will be on our website soon.
Below in this column you can read a review of last term's sporting highlights with reports from pupils.
On the Right Track!
On Wednesday 28th June Our athletics team enjoyed a good meeting on Wednesday evening at Woodbank Park in Stockport. The team competed very well and enjoyed the experience of running on a full sized track.
Run-away Success
In June Lower Park won the Poynton Kwik Cricket Championship - a fantastic achievement! On Wednesday 28th June the players
then took part in the Regional Final Kwik Cricket Tournament, where they met very strong opposition.
Here's a 'Kwik' report from Jordan of year 6
"On Wednesday 28th of June 2006 Lower Park, Poynton kwik cricket champions, set off to Warrington to play in the regional finals. We arrived at about 9:50am and we walked up to play our first game.
The game ended to a loss as the Lower Park squad were beaten by Offley. Christleton were the next team to play and we cruised through the game scoring 298 runs.
Unfortunately the last team we played had won all their matches and so they had to beat us to get through to the next round. It was an extremely close game but they managed to win the game by 13 runs.
We were quite disappointed as we headed home with our heads held high; we are still the Poynton champions!"
Report by Jordan in year 6
Rugby Round-up The Lower Park tag rugby team continued to improve their standing with 5th place in the Cheshire finals where they were up against some of the best teams in the County. It's the schools best ever position.
Here's a rugby report from Jake in year 6
"Last week Lower Park rugby team attended the county finals at Macclesfield Town rugby club. They qualified after playing well in the previous round and finishing third.
We left school at lunch time and arrived to play at one thirty. We lost to High Leigh in our first match by one try.
In our next match we played better and had a convincing victory. Ashton were winning all their matches and would win the group. They beat us 8-6 in a good match.
After all the matches we needed to win or draw our last match. At half time they lead by one try and in the last thirty seconds they scored which put them one ahead. We raced back to the line but the referee blew his whistle to end the game.
We went back disappointed but we knew we’d done ourselves proud."
