Thursday
The group was split into four groups of ten children. Every
group tried each of the following activities. Semaphore, Parachute
Games and Orienteering.
|
| Semaphore:Ten
children were divided into two teams, with each team standing at either
end of the field. They had to imagine they were stranded on different
desert island. |
 |
 |
Having
learnt four letters each, the children then had to send messages to
the opposite team, asking for vital supplies. |
|
Using a wire between them, they could send and receive their items
of chocolate, water etc. |
 |
 |
Initially
this task appeared to be quite tricky. In fact everyone was surprised
how easy it was. |

Games

|
| Orienteering:
The group was instructed how to read a compass. |
 |
 |
They then had to set bearings before navigating a short trail around
part of the village. |
| Origami:
The children were taught some simple folds moves before making a paper
frog and having an obstacle race with it. |
 |
 |
This
was all very well, until it was decided that the new Origami folds
could also be used to make WATERBOMBS!! |
| During
the afternoon, the teachers took eight children each and made as many
waterbombs as they could in thirty minutes. |
 |
 |
There
were no winners or losers during the fight, just a lot of fun and
wet people. |
|
Thursday
evening:
The evening was spent first at the Village hall making kites, and
later taking part in games and quizzes.
|
| Kite
making: Spread
out on the floor, with scissors, string, plastic sheeting and sellotape,
everyone settled down to make kites. |
 |
 |
The
warden of the hostel supplied everyone with a basic kit to work on.
|
| This
task took much longer than anticipated. It became obvious that everyone
was getting really tired.....and we still had another whole day before
going home. |
