Sport

The children at Lower Park are themselves involved in the planning and evaluation of their work, with the emphasis on performing. We aim to develop physical competence, an awareness of the benefits of group activities and an appreciation of skilful and creative work in the various areas. Pupils are in this way encouraged to develop commitment, a sense of fairness and a lasting enthusiasm for physical activity.

Whatever sport you like, watch or play, there are all sorts of websites on the internet that you might be interested in.

If you come across other good Sport sites e-mail them to your Lower Park Web Editors saying why you think they are 'cool'.

Association of Football Statisticians
An interesting and useful site for children doing historical work which may involve the history of football, this is well written and balanced. The site contains sufficient information to be of interest at Key Stage 2 and for GCSE sports and PE students. Find out how the game progressed from a rough and ready free-for-all to the organised and popular sport it is today.

Games Kids Play
Now here's an unusual site! Have you ever been stuck for playground games ideas? Are you trying hard to recall the break-time game you used to play or remember the rhyme you used to chant while skipping? Look no further than this page. It has an American slant but is useful nonetheless. Ideal for pupil research and PE teachers looking for something different.

Netball Resources Page
A resource page for netball, this regularly-updated site covers basic resources, organisations and clubs, plus information on how to play the game, basic rules, practice drills, positional responsibility and areas of play. It also has good links to other sites of interest. The site is a very good directory and would be mainly useful for teachers of the sport.

The Power and the Glory
This is a pre-visit activity for the National Science Museum's Sports Gallery Exhibition, which could be used for science or PE at Key Stage 2. Children can measure their reaction time online and there are four other activities suggested. A useful starting point for work on the human body.
